What is Ventilator PEEP? (Medical Proceedures)

posted by Jeff(R), 28.06.2005, 00:34

Positive End-Expiratory Pressure (PEEP) PEEP is defined as 'pressure at the airway above ambient at the end of expiration'. This raised pressure prevents alveolar collapse thereby increasing functional residual capacity (FRC) and allowing better gas exchange. Thus it improves oxygenation.
